Hey steve-
guess what?
WE have been tooling up to make early roof rack for squares...
Yep..
So when you come up here for the work on your car we can add one to the order of parts.
Just as an FYi Steve and I have been working on a deal that will bring his early [67] square up here for some work.
It looks like he will be driving the car up and we will do a pan swap for his car. We will have a new powdercoated pan already here waiting for him.
IT will get the pan swap, and some other "add on goodies".
It will be our version of "DDB pimp my type 3", we are looking to get his car done in 48 hrs as he will be Driving it back to CA! |

I prefer originals myself but the repros I have seen are pretty good.
The problem with most repro Beetle racks is that they do not have the weight capacity of an original rack. I do not know if this is true of the Type 3 repro racks but it may be something to check if you plan to load it down
Since the topic came up, I am still looking for a Type 3 Bekowa woodslat rack:

Can I be on the next episode? It'll probably take a lot more than 48 hours to get my car close to pimp'd but I'd be willing to wait. I really need to get my car out to you. |

Nice looking rack but SMALL! Either position it over the rear (like the original dealer bolt-ons) or buy a full-length unit! |

| Martin will yours be shorties, or full length? Also will they stand tall enough to give clearance for a sliding ragtop? And will they come in pieces (for shipping purposes). And will they support a load or are they strictly ornamental? Sorry for the bombardment of questions but (as most on this forum will testify) you guys are the shizzle for coming up with t3 stuff. |

Ok here we go...
They will be made to clear rag tops, no problem
They will be full length
They will be in two pieces for shipping
They can support a load...they are not "for show use only"
Here are the two issues:
1] they will not be wood slat, they will be all metal
2] you will need to sign over your soul for one 8)
We hope to have a few made up in a month or so, depending on what time we have to dink around.
hows dat? |

Martin-
addressing you issues:
1) really wanted a wood slat rack, maybe we could work something out
2) my soul's already spoken for - I cashed it in quite a while ago.
Seriously all I am looking for is a metal frame. I can cut and finish the wood and do the painting & etc. I'm actually quite handy, just not good at bending, shaping, and welding yet. |

We only plan on offering the racks with metal slats, if you want wood then you can have your own made to fit.
We are trying to keep the price low so it is affordable.
so it is a toss up on the slats ...
but this is still in the planninf stages to.
thanks- |

| I thik I like the fact that I can have it ether way you know cause I could get creative with the wood opptions are always better plus some times we can't always spend 300 and up. And also if it happened to be 300 for martin to do a full lenth metal or wood rack is sick for the price og is cool but how many are out there and when you do come across one how much more are you gonna invest in to it I'm with everret wouldn't mind an og just don't have the time to wait plus the ddb would never stear me wrong |
