why not? cut a hole in it and drop in one of the plastic cup holders and away you go

I like, can you make one in OG cream/white?

EverettB Thu Jul 01, 2004 9:18 am

Cool. Someone was just talking about that same thing at the Classic, did they give you the idea?

You should probably make sure your seat belt bolts still fully thread in... or get longer bolts.

TheDDB Thu Jul 01, 2004 9:24 am

One the car we tested it one the stock bolts were long enough to still be used.

"Someone was just talking about that same thing at the Classic, did they give you the idea? "....nope- who was talking about these? we had already mocked up a few proto types before we had left for the classic.

yep can do...do you want cream or white?....It might cost a bit more for the non black colors but not to much.

And Idea was even tossed out to have the frames chromed. That would really push the price up a bit but would look cool.

thanks guys.

Aw, c'mon Eve, you know we've been into T3's a long time! This usually pops up in the T3 email list once a year :)

Yes, the bolts are long enough. I used to have a Schroth Autocontrol racing harness in my baby (now it's in the Jetta) and it uses the stock mounting points. I installed it in conjunction with the stock seat belt stuff and I was confident about plenty of bolt in the hole and these take up the same "space" so they won't impact occupant safety.

Yes but someone was specifically talking about mounting it to the seat belt points, which I thought was a cool idea.

I'm not sure...

On the bolt lengths, I was thinking more of people who might not have the stock bolts in there. Like my car has aftermarket seat belts so might need longer bolts if I were to mount something like that.

I think I might have something to do with that. There was a discussion somewhere around here about rare accessories, and someone in there mentioned the old center armrests, and thought they bolted to the tunnel. Someone else said that no, they mounted to the seats.

Then I chimed in and said "hmm .. this gives me ideas, I'll have to dink around and see what I can come up with". The one pictured on Martin's page is actually my second prototype. The first one had design problems in the metal frame.

Does that help make things clear as mud? :D

Ooooh!
Now if you would just build them with a double cup-holder on the front end.

Mr. Bubblehead Thu Jul 01, 2004 9:45 pm

Yeah, big enough for a 52oz Slurpee

It's in the works -- Martin and I dinked around today and started to prototype a cupholder add-on. The design we're working on will allow the cupholder to be retrofitted -- the armrests will have the cupholder attachments already fitted inside. Covered and out of sight, but already fitted.

.. if all goes as planned, that is.

Damn, Martin beat me to the punch. That'll teach me to read three sites at the same time.

Or not.
