You got what looks like a pretty nice car. Personally I wouldn't do it. I'm not a big fan of the aftermarket cloth sunroofs. They seem out of place in later model cars. Like early bumpers on later cars, it just ain't right. You want the styling of an early car, get an early car. If you are just looking to let the sun in, consider cutting in a stock steel sunroof. They look cleaner, will match the year of the car, and won't potentially damage the value of the car.
If you are still hot on it, have it professionally installed. Done right, they won't give you any leakage problems. About ten years ago I had a buddy try to put one in himself and it never sealed right. He thought the frame of the sunroof was too flat, I think he just didn't know what the hell he was doing.

I have an excellent aftermarket ragtop in my 72 Super 1302. I had it installed at Sunroof performers in South Gate, CA (Los Angeles). It's an inalfa 2 fold ragtop and it's amazing! So many compliments.

I don't do welding.
Can anybody give me a ballpark price on what it costs to have a professional install an aftermarket ragtop?

| I have a Britax in my '74 Super. I got it from a parts car that I bought. Installation wasn't hard, but I did it while I had it apart for paint and body work. Basically, I took a lot of measurements from the parts car, tranferred them to my '74, checked again and again, then broke out the saber saw and cut the roof. After the hole is cut, you have to drill holes for the frame and it is a bolt in installation. To be honest, I rarely use my sunroof, as I never put pop-out rear windows in the car and without them, it gets a lot of air vibration through the car when you drive. I will say the fit and quality is good with the Britax (no leaks), but I think Britax stopped selling these kits. |
