In your eyes/mind what do you think the hardest oval parts are to find, and what years? Just wanted to know what everyone thinks. I am a new owner of a 57 and just wanted to see what years and parts are tough to find. Thanks!

it seems to me that nothings really hard to find, just expensive as hell when you do find it. if i had to awnser that question, then i would have to say accesories are harder to find than anything, but dont get me to lyin'.
good luck with your car

I agree with 56 oval, I have a 57 ragtop and parts are out there.

Just be prepared to pay for good quality parts.

Read the classified section of these forums to find out who is good to deal with.

Good luck!

try to find a vert lid, 55 only taillights. They pop up from time to time.

Germanpride Mon Jul 05, 2004 2:33 pm

are 55 taillights the ones with the heart on top?

DopeBeatDerrick Mon Jul 05, 2004 4:52 pm

55's have the ever elusive "egg shell" lights. They are one year and have a convex or egg shaped lense. A BITCH to find and super expesive... read: vert W decklid.

i have a 54 oval. rolling shell few parts not many !... heart tail lights i saw them at classic for like 650$$ deck lids 200$+ but when your car is finished it will look SWEET

Germanpride Mon Jul 05, 2004 9:11 pm

fuckin shit, there was a set of og paint eggshell taillights at a show around here awhile ago for 150, the lenses weren't cracked or anything, damn i wish i had some money then

radrob Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:27 pm

55 and earlier are harder to get parts for

12thstreetjunkman Mon Jul 05, 2004 11:15 pm

as the others have said, the parts, as well as cars are definitly out there, but they come with a price. I myself have been looking for a mint set of 55 tail lenses for one of my cars for a long while, as mine are cracked. 55 and down will cost you more to redo, ribbed doors, and little odd ball stuff will kill you.

I think the hardest parts to get are the parts that don't ever wear out or break. Guys just don't save such parts. Like the steel speedo tube that bolts on in the trunk. Think about when you've ever seen an ad for one of those.
Then the pre-55 parts are tough to get. Try to find an inner door arm rest support bar. Someone has to wreck a car to give one up, and there's not a lot of pre-55 cars being wrecked.

Bruce, you can say that again. Im looking for a RHD one right now. Think all this oval stuff is hard. Try finding a right hand drive oval glove box door, speedo cable tube and a sweet rhd oval glove box. Im still looking after 7 years I still havent found anyone willing to let that stuff go. Maybe my UK friends or friends down under can help me out. *hint*

1953 beetle dash ash tray or a oct 52-dec31 beetle dash ash tray.(zwitter parts)

I have a set of ribbed doors and a '60 vert decklid on my 54 drag bug. I am thinking of going to fiberglass. What is the ball park for what they are worth?

It's the one YOUR looking for : the one on the Samba that was just sold, the one on E-Bay that you got out bid for $ 1.00 on, the one you see someone carrying around at a swap meet, the one you had a extra one and sold ,it's the one you've been seeing "all the time" until you need it at 10X the price, the one that was taken off your car,the one your friend got for free but is going to use on their car, the one you gave away..." I'll never need that, the one you gave away because you didn't know what it was ... but now you need one Lloyd

How about "1953 Only" ashtray, speedometer, and starter button?

Gotta find a dead '53 to get those....

Yustrn Thu Aug 12, 2004 2:38 pm

I can find any of those parts listed, just have a fat pocket book, that's all......

Skim- PM me, I can give you a contact to get all those parts.

I wondered why nobody was interested in it.

Its also not about the money. A lot of times the parts are misrepresented, or you are looking at what you want to see. To me the hardest item is the '55 tailight brackets. I am holding off on cutting up heart brackets to make work. . Shipping costs are not helping things either. Bring the parts over from Europe and then tag that cost on. Seems as tho the European guys are prouder of their parts too. Oval dash grills with clocks going for $1000 or more now is crap. Try to find a large logo oval windshield!!
