| When I bought my fastback, ended up ripping out all the insualtion in the rear to install a speaker box. The box is long gone now and issues are rising. The heat inside the car is quite excessive when driving over 5-10 miles(feels like an oven) All I've got back there is the top of the rear seat and the deck lid. What should I use to replace the old insulation that once was. Doesn't need to be pretty, just work... :?: |

I've seen a lot of guys cut the rear deck out also. Did you do that? Mine was cut out by the po wich I hated at first but I'm a car audio installer so it helped to my advantage. Speakers fireing at the rear window in a fastback hammer. The window has such awesome bass transfer it acts like a hatchback.
Anyway Dynamat sells a silver liner called "Hoodliner" of all things that will block out a lot of heat. I imagine it works better then the stuff they used when the car was new. It almost looks like bubble rap with a tinfoil plating so it might not look that great. If your rear deck was cut out though your not going to block much heat unless you fabricate something to cover that back up again. Try ebay they sell dynamat. Good luck |

| The rear deck is still there. I thought of removing it at one time and turning the car into a db drag car, still a possibility... One reason I would is this car is has so much cancer, I'm waiting to hit a hard enough bump and fall through the pan. Not really keen on cutting up the car while it's still drivable. It's kinda my test vehicle to learn as much as I can before diving into my fasty out back(with very lil rust  ) I've used some dynamat or other brand in my truck to help with rattles, but not willing to spend that kinda cash on this car. Just need a quick fix I guess. Maybe a bunch of blankets shoved back there might help... |

You know I was thinking maybe you could seal up the cab from the rear trunk area. Use some wood or something Or go to home depot and buy some of that insulated foam that has a foil backing on it. That stuff is like 5 bucks far a 4x8 sheet. Should work pretty good. If you don't care much about this car as it sounds, just seal it up. Who cares.
As far as DB drag I'm running two JL 13w7s two JL 1000/1s and a 450/4 with MB quarts all the way around. Eclipse head unit and 3 1/2 bulk packs of extreme dynamat. I'm hitting pretty consistent 165 dbs. Not bad for 2 subs. Granted they are 900 bucks a piece. |

Not to seem like I don't care about the car. It's the only car I've ever had that hasn't let me down (with the exception of a fuel pump going out once) Just seems the more money I dump into it, the less I want to fix it up. The considerable amount of rust just intimidates me. This isn't surface rust either. Plus the other one I've got seems easier to restore.
As for subs, I currently got 2 kicker 10L7's and a kicker kx800.2 with cap(NEVER BUY KICKER!!!my opinion). Also mb quart components psd216 with a soundstream pushing them. Hitting around 149 in my truck...good enough for me. I used to have 3 10w6's that hit damn hard (someone is enjoying them) Probably go back to jl or orion after these are toast. |
