View original topic: replacing luggage shelf

I recently purchased a 1969 beetle with a pretty solid body. I haven't seen any rust in the heater channels or in quarters or inner fender areas. It looked like surface rust on the luggage tray behind back seat. I started messing with the rust and found that it was starting to rust through the majority of the panel. I would like to replace this piece and was wondering what all was involved in the job. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 1973 I bought at same time and it has a good luggage tray. Can I use the luggage tray out of it to replace the one in the 1969? Thanks, Jeff

You could do that if the 73 is just a parts car, but if not I would hate to see you cut up a rebuildable bug ( even if it is a later model) that someone could make a project out of and thus keep another VW on the road.

The part is not that expensive ( link) and you don't have to spend time trying to cut out the old part.
