Hey all! Ok, I'm beginning to wonder about my muffler (1973 SB, stock 1600)??

I hear a little backfire, after coming off the freeway, stopped at the light on an offramp. Also, the engine noise is a bit louder when I step on the gas, though it runs smooth when at constant speed, than it was say 4 days ago. I did replace my airhoses, and put clamps on them, lastweek. (The ones before, had never been replaced, nor clamped in place, to my knowledge...)

The plugs are about 5 months old, after having been replaced when I replaced my alternator in Feburary.

Other than the muffer and/or points, I'm not sure what I should or should not be looking for, any ideas? :?

Thanks! 8)

Since you've replaced the airhoses you may want to look at the large clamp that goes to your heaterboxes. If it's not seated right it will make your car louder and it will backfire once in a while. (Had the very same problem) As far as the backfiring goes you may want to adjust your valves.

Thanks, ND! Come to findout, it is more than just being seated right, the entire exhaust is toast, and will be replaced. I got rust all up in there, so going to shop around for the best dual tuck away exhaust system.

Again, thanks! 8)
