Like I said.I was originally told about the bus.I took the oval in a attempt to win favor with the land owner.I plan on waiting a week. Then go back and say I could not reach the guy either after several messages. And that if he wants it gone I brought everthing to take it the same day.He wants to clean up the places so I am sure he will go for it.Theres some older cars, chevy, buick ecectra.so I will tell him I will send others to help ease his workload. OH yeah I have his name if you want to slap him.

Humphreydog:
Jeeze, maybe you could just buy the left side back from him! It would easily be $500 (or more) less work to put it back in than any other similar piece from a different Kombi!
With regard to the bug: Yes, I agree about not restoring, but with a twist. If you've got the room, save the whole damn thing. It might be a lot more valuable in a year, or two. It would be ideal for being a donor for a very rusty oval. The W- engine lid can definitely be hammered back to shape and nearly to metal finished quality with not a lot of work.
It would also be a good practice mule to refine your body bumping skills.

If it WAS a split window, would you have the skill? Practice!
It's really amazing what one can do with a porta power, a few dollies and hammers and spoons, and an oxy-acetylene torch. And every job I do I get better! I recently did some hammering on a badly crushed rear corner of a 67 Porsche Targa. I think it's gonna save! (I've got a new quarter- but hell, it's 20 hours work by the book for a journeyman body man to change it!). And I'll have a $1000 quarter panel left over.

Save the Kombi; that'd be a great restoration story.

Update:after veiwing the vin# it appears to be a 54 oval. vin number in spare tire nose area is 675934.

Dude, compared to that, the 64 I have in my backyard is freakin' AAA awesome! (and it's really a pile of rust!). I like you for taking it though, I probably would've done the same thing :)
