All beetles have a single spring on the side of the carburetor for the throttle cable - nothing upfront at the pedal.
If the throttle has no feel, it could be a problem of a kinked cable sticking somewhere, the tube through the fan housing out of the hole (draggin on the cable), or old grease on the cable making it a little sticky. It could also be in need of the whole pedal cluster needing a complete clean and regrease with fresh stuff - a lot of dirt can accumulate around the pedals and you end up with a greasey mess stuck to the shafts. |

Aussie! ! ! Been a long time! I beleive he is missing the early style return spring that goes over the throttle cable, not on the carb. See this break down . . .parts 22 - 25 here -> http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg/fuelsystem/index.html
Here is a pic of the parts in the kit -> http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111129000
I think this explains Dr.Darby's questionless post as well  |

That is the same part that I linked to above.
This goes over the throttle cable at the carb end. The spring compresses as the cable goes inward.
Let me search for an old post of mine that described the install in detail and I'll link to hit here. |

Follow this thread. There is a link to a diagram in one of the posts, then I had some detailed info on how it went together.
Good luck.

| in usa beetles 1961and back to 58 have a spring on the floor pedal for sure as pedal hinge is welded to floor not part of casting.. when roller pedal used in ovals was replaced with flat pedal a spring was put on pedal..so if pedal is hinge is welded to floor there is a spring on it-it comes in rebuild kit for pedal 58-65 i believe-but i havent owned a 65 or earlier since about late 80's...... |

Well, here is the bracket. http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111701535a
I posted here hoping that someone would help me locate it correctly on he pan so I could weld it. I wound up having to loosley assemble all of the pedals to mark the pan. I later learned that other brand pans had an indention specifically for thise hinge bracket. My luck was to get a set that was not marked.
Here is my bracket after welding in. I have since cleaned up the welds, touched them up too, and POR-15'd the pan.

I'll get a pic for you. Basically the spring coils around the pin that goes through this bracket (that the pedal hinges on). One leg of the spring rests against the floor and the other goes up behind the pedal. As you press the pedal, the spring coils up tighter, so when you release it the spring assists the pedal in going back to the upright position.
I'll get you a pic this afternoon. |
