I like the looks of the new rims from Flat Four (the 5 slot Ansen look a likes), but I am not sure about running my 135's on that wide of a rim (5")...

Any guys have 135's on 5" rims?

I wouldn't put 135s on a 5.0" rim.

I crammed a pair of 125 temps on my 5.5 inch empis. It looked sick.. but I might as well went to office depot and bought a pack of rubber bands to put on there. I only had them on my car for a day and after sliding through 2 red lights, I had enough.

I think 135's (and temps) look great on 4.5 inch wheels but I dont think I would squeeze em on anything bigger

I've run 135s on 5.5" rims for over 10 years. I run tubes in them and have never had a problem. But I am thinking about running 185-55-15 on my next bug to put some more rubber on the ground.
The 135's look cool though.

It can be a bit hairy when you lock up the brakes with 135's up front! Try that 175 tire everyone is talking about?

I went with a 185/60 after my "temp scare". They look great! Before the temps I ran stock 165's in the front. They rubbed a little so that was my cause of getting a smaller tire. Belive it or not, my car handles like a whole different car now with the 185's.
The 165 was a taller narrower tire.. The 185 is about a inch shorter and nearly 2 inches wider! I could go wider, what had the tire rubbing was the height

These are 185/60's and 205/70's. Sorry about the grainy photo

No probs here with 135's on 5.5.

Do a search and you should find alot of info on the 175/55/15 tire?

A freind of mine with a 55 oval is running a 195/60 on the front of his car and it is bitch slammed. no rubs. His car also has a 2027cc engine and will scream. Well, come to think of it, he does have a 2.5 inch narrowed beam.... so :?

I know this is far off from the 135 subject but Im just throwing out other tire options. I dont know why you would go with the 125, 135 or 175 instead of the 185.. or bigger. I think the more rubber on the ground the better. And it still looks good
( IMO )

Here is a few better looking shots of the 185/60. From the pictures it looks like it sticks out about 2 inches from the fender.... But I guess it was a sucky camera angle, they dont stick out at all.

Gotta love that broken stud! :)

( Im going to stop preaching about my tires as Im sure you guys have seen and heard enough of my rotten ass bug now.)

I'm running 5.5" wide rims and Nankang 135's, I got tubes in there as well. No problems.

I've had 135's on 5.5 wide chromies since I got my 64 BUG...it's a little flaky in a hard corner, but no problems with the tires staying on the rims (don't run your pressure low though..I have em at 30-33 Lbs)...and to have the Cal lowered & tucked look, 135 tires are the cheapest option to make it work (I have an adustable beam, but not narrowed, and dropped spindals)

the 175 is the smart car tires..they are great more tire to the pavement and its SAFER than the 135's

I ran 135 Michelins and 135 Klebers on 5.5" wheels years ago. I never had any problems with the actual tire/wheel combo. 135s do tend to lock up pretty quick and I wouldn't recommend them now, not with all the superior modern tire options there are out there. I am running Kuhmo 195/50s in my 5.5' 8-spoke clones but they are a little too wide for the wheel.

looks good man! are you able to lower the car any further now that the sidewalls are shorter without rubbing the inner part of the fender? 8)

The 175/55 is a Continental Smart Tire. It will fit the 5.5" and runs $80/tire. (Thanks SKIM for the idea. I called Black Gold and they confirmed).
