I was just wondering if anyone knew the name of this oval's color that i saw at the VW Classic. I really like it, but can't seem to find out the name of the color and if it's correct for that year ('56).

You should be able to call any automotive paint supplier, and give them the year, make, and color faimly. At least they can give you a couple of options to help narrow it down. I prefer ppg, so I would recomend one of those suppliers first.

That's a 55. It should be strato silver blue. Hard to tell from the picture.

Ditto, strato silver or the nickname Trout blue comes to mind. |

:? I'm a little stunned. A color from that era that is actually beautiful. '50s colors were OK but an outstanding one like that is unusual.

alot of the really cool 50's metallics were mostly euro spec cars so its really nice to see them once & a while. One of my faves is ultra marroon 54 color. Light silvery champaigne color or even Cardinal red. 58-59 ghia only color. Very rare 50's metallics are bad ass.

OK, I guess maybe Europe had the edge in color. The US market had some strange tastes at that time like the pink and purple '56 Studebaker sitting in my backyard. Its a classic combination for the mid 50s but I sure don't know why. It looks to me like you could slip a coat of that silver on a 2004 and it would fit right in.
