i have a set of singleport manifolds.. they were given to me by a very generous person..
well the paint is flaking off and they are a bit rusty.. i am not sure what to do to prep them for installation.. i want to clean all the rust down and take all the old paint off.. but i am not sure what kind of paint to put on them.. high temp paint? currently there is also paint on the inside.. and some rust in there.. should i repaint the inside as well?
i know it seems rather simple.. but i don't want to do a job i am not 100% sure of.
thanks. |

| I would not put paint on anything that is in the path to the inside of my engine. I would suggest blasting for cleaning. They are small enough that any machine with a blast cabinet should be able to do it in short order. I'd guess that hi temp 'engine enamel' would be fine. I don't think they would ever get hot enough to properly cure the paint used for exhaust systems. |

If the car is driven, fuel/air will keep them from rusting pretty well. If it is stored often, there are a couple of kinds of fogging oil that can be used as part of the shutdown process. Fogging is usually recommended for boat engines that get stored for the off season.
If you want to do the insides, you might consider POR15. It cures as hard as a rock and is supposed to be resistant to most chemicals and solvents. |

| The only thing I'd be concerned with when coating the inside of the intakes is reduced diameter. Granted, it would be a very small fraction, but... |
