John Deere's satin black (Blitz Black) is very durable. Made for industrial applications like tractors, etc and dirt cheap.

K-mart spray paint is cheap, you may have to do touch up here and there every once in awhile.

And there are different grades in between. Not all paint are the same, just because they're all flat black doesn't mean they all will function the same. That would be like asking if the car will last longer if it was blue instead of red, color has nothing to do with quality...

I wouldn't just primer it. Primer sucks up moisture and your car will rust under the primer. I use John Deere Blitz Black. It's more of a satin black paint. Super cheap and wears like iron. $25.00 a gallon you can't go worng.

Save yourself the time frustration and just buy a cheap spray gun set up and do it right the first time. Much cheaper in the long run.

I've seen it for sale on line ...quart / gallon and spray can. I would imagine you could order it from a dealer as well.
