hi, I have a 69 std. beetle and a 72 super beetle when we removed the body of the 69 we noticed that the frame was starting to rot in the front framehead. on the 72 the frame seems to be good but the body is shot. is there any way that the 69 body will fit on the 72 frame? if so how hard of a project is this?
any help would be great.

Pretty hard. Chassis front ends of the two are completely different as are the bodies in the front. Spare tire well, fuel tank, steering, other front body components are in different locations. Standard suspension is torsion bar, Super is strut, different as night and day. Struts attach to the body on the Super. No place to attach them on the Standard.

VW spent millions redesigning the front of the beetle for the Super. Don't find out the hard way.

Agreed... it's a major project. It would be easier to fix the old pan.

what would the best way to go about repairing the std. pan be? where can i get the parts? what tools do i need? and how hard of a job is it?

Post some pics of the rotted areas and someone here will be able to give you advice.

Now don't get mad people... but this topic is a perfect example of one that the search should yield alot of hits on! :shock: :wink:

for example type just the word "pan" in and limit it to the paint and body forum and you get 156 hits.

for the super forum you get 88

just have to scroll through the titles of the threads to pick the most relavent ones and read...

that must be because 2000 of my posts have been spreading the word that the search works? :shock: :wink:
