| Thinking of replacing the original headers and muffler with a S&S. Will this affect the performance negative or positive on a fuel injected setup? My thought is, like a motorcycle, you must adjust the computer for the different exhaust. Any thoughts? Anyone running an aftermarket exhaust on a FI bug? |

Proper aftermarket exhausts for 75-79 F/I bugs are few and far between. You cannot install one for a 66-74 without replacing the heat exchangers with earlier ones. Then you have to use a 70 - 74 rear tin so the holes for the heater tubes go through the proper angle. Now since you are at it you should know that you'll get approx 30% less heat from the earlier heater boxes because only 1/2 of the exhaust runs through them, not all of the exhaust like the later boxes. If you find the proper header for 75-79 then go for it.
The computer is not adjustable and you will not need to adjust anything else as the F/I will take care of itself. |
