I had some time to pull most of the interior out of my recently acquired 66 Westy walkthrough. Images can be found at the following URL:

This being my first attempt at restoration, I'm going to need to enlist some experienced help. I've already sent a message to Kelly Brown to see what can be done for the cargo area. The bus drives great. From what I can tell of the undercarriage, everything, except some of the cargo floor crossmembers, looks solid.

My main question: The goal is to have a functional camper. Having the bus ready for shows is secondary, but would be fun at some point. Based on the images, does this bus seem to be a candidate for such restoration or should I just patch enough to keep her alive? I don't want to throw money out the window, but I am willing to spend wisely.

Thanks for any recommendations!

That' looks pretty solid to me....I'd drive the way it is.....

its not that bad. I would leave it as well. If it really bothers you hit it with some POR-15.

Going to shows is alot of fun and you do not need a 100 point resto to enjoy them.

The holes in your door are from those badass (note sarcasm) truck mirrors that were screwed into the side of alot of buses. There are probably 2 more just like it on the window frame as well.

Doesn't look bad to me. I'd just enjoy it. And as it works out a very handy way to enjoy it would be to drive and camp at High Country Bus Festival. Once you camp in it with a good group of people, you will never forget it.

You should definitely head over to High Country. There'll be some people leaving from the Winston Salem area. Check out the full moon bus club site for more details on the carabus over there.

Thanks for all of the replies! Sounds like the rust-through in the cargo area is pretty much "business as usual" for a bus of this vintage.

The High Country Bus Festival sounds like a blast. I would be there in a heartbeat, but have plans on the other end of the state that were made several weeks before. Are there any other festivals coming up soon in the NC/VA/SC/GA region?

i have a truck mirror if you want it.

as for the other festivals, go to www.fullmoonbusclub.com and on the home page, scrool down and take a look.

Josh,

Thanks for the mirror offer. May take you up on it when I get that NOS roof mount air dam and air-assist drum brakes installed.

Seriously though. Thanks for the link!
