View original topic: 72 Super Beetle engine overhaul

Okay, I have my engine dismantled, new engine case and cylinder heads ordered (along with other small parts, like a gasket kit) and I have cleaned most of my parts. I have a box of stuff to take to the machinist tomorrow, and I have shroud pieces ready to paint tomorrow. My questions are:

1. How do I know if I have all the shroud pieces I should. I know I do not have a small piece that goes behind (in front of, as I face it) the crankshaft pulley, and I suspect there are 2 small plates on top of or in front of the heat risers, according to John Muir's book (my VW bible for now). Is there any way to find out exactly what tin pieces my 72 Super Beetle should have?

2. The fan cleaned up nicely. Is there any reason to paint it while I paint the tin? For rust prevention, perhaps?

Thanks in advance for any responses.
