I have a '51 split beetle and am going to fit a late model, dp(Berg) motor. Are all the tins (years) the same? Will the car accept the late model tin? What is the best approach? Thanks, Jim

there are a couple of problems with this: one is the doghouse. early 36hp cooling tins are different because of the intake manifold.

We're gonna use the late model shroud w/ aluminum oil cooler. Should we use all late model stuff or mix/match? Thanks.

use the later model stuff if the engine is of a series of later model like AK or AH if the engine is of a style of the 51' or 36 HP then use the older tins. mixing and matching will only cause problems later down the road i.e. overheating. hope this helps

You will probably need to do some modifications to the engine tin to get it in there. Trim here, trim there until it fits.

The cylinder head tin should fit OK. Install the engine w/o the rear breastplate tin. You will find that one will need to be trimmed back about 3/4 - 1" as it will rub the rear of the engine house. Also if you are running heater boxes you'd be best suited to install them AFTER the engine is in as they like to hang up around the firewall during engine installation.

should have B pistons..he means is pin height closer to piston top?(b-piston) or is pin height same as stock ?(A-piston) your valve cover bail hits rear passenger side near bumper bracket..
