Didn't see these two in the thread yet. Top one isn't a split though. No idea what it is.

Ernies VW Auto Center, 716 W. Maple, 262-3042. This was a business in the late 60's to the 70's, not sure when it closed, I'm investigating now.
Its on both sides and the nose. |

Part of the National archives collection. Found it the other day and instantly thought of this thread. the original caption with the photo is "Mayor Casey in the Truck That Is His Traveling "Office." He Uses the Doors for His "Files."
Taken 06/1972 in Leakey, Texas.
I assume Mr. Casey was not in fact the Mayor of Leakey, Texas but may have been referred to as such. I found the inside of the panel to be crazy ineresting. Looks like a factory cab divider is still intact and the bus was originallyy Dove Blue. There's some signage there but no way to really tell what it reads. I scoured the remaining pics from the collection with no additional photos. I am currently researching the original photographer who passed in 1992. |

Thanks for the info and links on Mayor Casey and why he was photographed, nice to have a bit of background on such an intriguing photograph.

I just dragged the photo to open in a new window, and used that link.

Is it just me, or does this bus have canvas sides in the back? It would be pretty cool to see it opened up if it does. I guess it could be just a banner attached to solid sides for a parade or whatever event the costumed driver is going to. Any more pics? |
