I just bought a 72 vert and it's a pale yellow, I went online to look at VW paint chips but there are quite a few yellows and I am not sure which one to get, anyone have a guess ? The Archives section lists Texas yellow ?
My new vert is awesome, 1776, Weber carb, big valve heads, electric Ign, new top no rust at all just needs the paint freshned up, and I got a great deal on it. :D |

Hiya No,
The paint could be one of two colors offered that year.
Saturn Yellow (L13M) was found ONLY on convertibles. Texas Yellow (L10B) was good for all models. So.......looks you have a choice to make after doing some more chip chart studying.

Thanks that helps a lot, from the chips it looks like Texas yellow more than Saturn yellow.
Thanks again :D |

What book or site can this info be had?
I'm doing a '73 Super and are still unsure of my color.
Mine is green but it's in need of redoing.
Thanks. |

Hiya Tazz,
Well you're in pretty much the same spot as nobrakes.
Turns out that VW offered up two shades of green in 1973. One was for Supers only. That was Sumatra Green (L61B). The other was for convertibles only - Ravenna Green (L65K) No other greens for that year. So yours has to be one or the other depending on just exactly what you have sitting in the driveway.
By the way, this information is courtesy of JT Garwood and his Car of the Century, Volume 2. I can't imagine anybody trying to restore a VW without this book.

Hiya Jeffrey,
Actually I've had my copy of Garwood for years. Paid through the nose for it also! But didn't I read of somebody around here who bought a copy of Volume 2 for $2.59 (or something like that?) on e-Barf?

My bad, I thought that was you! $2.59, that was "The Deal of the Century!"
