View original topic: 52 Zwit Door Adjustment

I have a problem that I'd like to correct. My 52 Zwit has a right door and the latch doesn't catch like it should. It takes a hard shut to get it to close.
I think that the adjustment in the catch needs to come out a bit so the
latch will engage once the door is shut.

I can't seem to find any posts, and I haven't done door latch adjustments on this old of a VW before, so any comments or help would be appreciated. The door hangs dead straight and the latch and handles are in great working shape, so I think it's just a matter of adjusting the striker (catch) a little bit out.

On bugs up to 55, sometimes its a matter of adjusting both the striker and the door where it screws on. Hopefully not the latter on yours since you say the hinges are straight. The rubber door buffers that screw onto the side of the door are adjustable also. Try loosening them and see if the door shuts easier. After it shuts with the proper feel, retighten them. On early ribbed doors, its just a matter of fine tuning them down.

I'll try those, I'm trailering it up tomorrow but I'm avoiding putting
my Empi Door pulls on until I have this resolved. I don't want to snap them off. It's easier to reach across with the window down and pull the door shut with my and across the window gap opening in the door.

Ahh, tinkering with 50+ year old technology is fun.

Thanks for the advice. I'll tinker with it tonite.
