The fuelsender (floating thing in the tank) of my girls 72 Notch is broken.
I can't seem to get hold of a replacement.
Will a beetle sender work?

Thanks

I don't think you live in Holland too so hat's not an option.
Thanks anyways.

Soo, does a beetle fuelsender work in a type 3.

Did they discontinue sending packages to Holland?

No,it doesn't work correctly in a type3. It will fit in the opening, but it won't read correctly. Here is where you really need the correct part.

I have had good luck opening them up and cleaning them.

As long as the wires are not broken and the unit was not rusty inside, they came back to life.

After a compleat resto on my 66 bus, includeing a new VDO sender. After the engine is in and everything I notice the sender is bad :( so now I have a restored bus without a working fuel guage...so I just wright down the milage and fill up every time...thats the cheap way

I've seen the link to the Type 3 club where instructions for disassembly are kept. How does one clean the sender once the canister is removed?

Another vote for no they dont work. My 67 had a beetle (swing type) one in it when i got it, the gauge read tilll 1/2 way then just sat there. I put a proper one in and now a year later, i need a gauge. grr. It works 2 out of 3 days. The right sender is about $50, expensive. Try to fix yours. I think they are all interchangeable too (or close) as the one in my 67 is out of a 71. Are you sure its the sender? When you tougch the wire to the sender to a ground point on the car does the gauge max out? (key on)
