View original topic: Just for fun... what would you do with my car?
RustBugget Fri Sep 17, 2004 1:35 pm

Last weekend I went and pulled what is left of my 1974 Super Beetle Convert out of the woods. It had been enjoying its secluded location in northern Wisconsin for about eight years.

I thought I would post the pics here for fun. What you see is what I got. There is no interior, engine, transmission, etc. I do have new heater channels and other misc. sheet metal.

I am actually thinking of trying to get this car running again. It would almost be like building a car from scratch but doesn't that sound fun?!? :)

For the money you'd need to turn it into a stock vert again you might want to go buy one that's in better shape. Otherwise you could customize it or make it a dune buggy or something really creative.

There's plenty of late model Super Verts around.

I'd find something better to build on.

I am restoring my mom's 72 from worse. It really depends on how much you like the car and how much you want to spend.

poor neglected Beetle...Did you put it in the woods 8 years ago? If so, then you are hereby sentenced to restore this car to it's former glory...or maybe a nice German-looker.
court is adjourned.

got welder?

IF you have the skills, metal, time, and $$, restore that bad girl. Or at least get it into restoreable shape and turn teh project over to someone who will love it.

Hell yeah, Restore it or get all the mechanics going sweet and roll it as it is....i'm guessing the top was down for those 8 years?

TaoDude Tue Sep 21, 2004 12:03 pm

shame, shame, shame.
Hey, if you want that kind of undertaking, feel free. We'd all be really impressed if you could pull it off. Personally, i might give it a shot, but that's only because i've got an extra engine and trans just lying around my garage.

Yes, your honor, I did put it there but in my defense it was not much better when I parked it in the woods.

Well, it wasn't down but there were a number of large holes in it. :)

I've definitely seen people start from worse. Essentially you have a free car to start with. What would it cost you to buy one in that condition? As long as you can (And WANT TO)do the work yourself, go for it.

As they say on TV, Don't crush 'em, restore 'em. :D

Cut up an oval and graft the parts to your super :-)
