right front lower trailing arm stud has a metal sleeve covering 2/3 of the stud itself. my shock will not fit over it. the sleeve has a slit, but i cant seem to get it off. would a propane torch help? what can i do?

that sleeve is from the old shock, you will have to remove it to mount a new shock,a torch will probably help

I agree. heat it up and knock it off. and then take some emery cloth to the stud and clean it up before installing the new shock. a little anti-sieze compound wouldn't hurt either.

either way, take it off by heating it up. knowing what it is/isn't wont help you much if you know it shouldnt be there

Might, but probably not. You will probably have to use an oxyacetylene to do it. I tried to get a rusted tie rod stud out of a steering knukle with a propane torch and after heating it for about 10 minutes it still wouldn't budge. The oxy took about 30 seconds to make it fall out out the hole. :D Just heat the sleeve up until it gets red, and then you should be able to pry it off.
