This is gonna sound like an odd question but here goes. Do you guys know if the big, low-profile tail light lenses from a late model super beetle would cover the opening to the headlight bucket in an early style fender? The reason I ask is because I bolted my front fenders on the back of the car to lay out how I'm going to cut them for baja fenders. Once I bolted them up I noticed the headlight buckets would be in about the right spot for tail lights if I cut below them instead of above. Leaving that much of the fender behind might also cover enough of the tires to keep me from getting a ticket. Any thoughts on wether this is doable or not?

sounds interesting but i dont think it would work unless you pade a panel to cover the whole thing then cut a hole in it.

I'm sure I'll have to make some kind of panel to mount it with. More than anything, I'm wondering if the lens is big enough or close to big enough to cover the headlight bucket. Those late model super bees have some pretty big headlights.

from end to end of the lens? it might fit but dont take my word on it

Even if it does fit.... you might not want to put them there anyway. That puts a lot of weight on fendres that you plan to cut a lot of support from. It also pots them hanging out in harms way, and one day you might have to drive home from your favorite dunes with no lights...I would find someplace inboard to mount them.
