......no not for her pleasure.
I picked up a sandrail with a 1600 and type-1 trans that I am wanting to upgrade to the Bus 3-rib version.
What year tranny is the one I want to look for? And also what is involved in coverting it to the rail's exsiting IRS?
Thanks for your help.

You're looking for a 68-71 bus tranny, part number starts with 002
You will also need different axles, cv's, and stubs. Assuming you have stock type 1 trailing arms, type 2 or 4 cv's will work with thing axles and stubs, or you can get 930 cv's and use Sway-a-way axles and custom stubs with 930 flanges. I've heard you can also use Porsche 924/944 axles but I'm not sure of the setup. The bus tranny mounts are available through most parts dealers. |

Actually...if you are not going to change the suspension length??(Longer rear arms and require longer axels) You can change the transmission and mounts along with the inner Bus CV's and just machine the stock axel to except the wider CV joint.
The Bus CV is about 1/8" wider that a sedan CV.
Just machine the CV stop on the axel back another 1/8" and your good to go...Yes I have done it on more than one occasion.
The local buggy(so called)shop grinds the whole stop off and tack welds a washer in place for a CV stop...That I would not do. |
