I have a 1776 in my '67 crewcab. In the "bible" it says that timing should be set at 7.5deg TDC. Does this still apply on the upgraded engine. I checked my timing and it was actually on around 8 deg, and on a drive last week on the freeway, I noticed she was backfiring a bit, mostly when decelerating. Is the 7.5 deg still right or should I set it different?
thanks!! |

The stock timing is a good starting point.
What carbs, distributor and cam on that 1776? |

She has dual weber carbs, not exactly sure on cam specs, but I do know it has performance cam and heads . Distributor has elecronic ignition. |

What distributor are you running? If it's 009 you need to set your timing at 28 degrees total advance. You'll need a strobe timing light for that. |

28-32 degrees TOTAL advance@3500 rpms.buy a "fancy"timing light, there only about $20 more than standard issue.you can set the advance on the light to come up with that above #.money well spent IMO........LOUIS |
