I went a car show the other day and I notice this Hot Rod Throwing flames thru the rear exhaust. They told me it is an easy installation with drilling a hole in the exhaust pipe and installing a spark plug and then wiring it up. Anybody have done yet..... :?: :?:

You wont be driving on the street if you do install one. Not legally anyways.

It is not for driving and it is not a time bomb. Just for shows. I know they sell kits. But I've watched an article in a tv show how to do it but I forget

at the route 66 there is this guy that has a 70s camero with the pipes strait up and he runs it on alcohal. on his, each pipe has a spark plug and it shoots flames about 4-5 feet in the air. the car is such a spectical it has to have a police escort. i must have seen 20-25 cars with the flame throwers out there. i think it was watsons-streetworks.com that sold the kit for 99.99. i thought about getting one, but thats a toy and i still haven't gotten to drive my car yet. (pan off & new engine)

Check out a Rod Mag to get ideas. Popular with the street rod/Lead Sled croud. Been thinking about that with mine, would be cool. Afraid of being called an arsonist, though

i did a flamethrower last month. i welded a bung for a spark plug in my stinger and ran the wire to a spark box from a furnace or somethin. it ran off 110v AC so i had to get a power inverter. all i had to do was rev up the motor turn the key off and pump the gas pedal and flames would shoot out several feet. i stopped using it because it fouled my plugs. soon i'll put a fuel injector in the stinger and then it'll work better

I have flame throwers on all my cars. they are NOT legal on the street, and in some places you can't even have plugs in your pipes. But, as long as you're not being stupid with them, you'll be ok. Plus, parking lots and driveways are private property.
Having said that, it's way easier and cheaper than anyone here thinks. 2 coils, 2 plug wires, 2 plugs, 1 switch, 30' of 14 guage wire is all it takes. Rev it up, flip the switch, enjoy. I can tell you how to wire it if your interested.

You can also buy about $15 worth of stuff from radio shack and build an ignition box like the one AutoLoc sells. I have plans for that too if your interested(part numbers included).

the setup i have seen is just a momrntary switch (push-on let off) that re-directs power from your coil to a secondary coil that is grounded an has a plug wire straight to the plug in the exaust....what happens when you hit the swith is the it cuts electricity to the motor just letting it pump gas through (for a second or so) and gives spark to the exaust let go of the button and whoila motor fires and so does your exaust...i don't think a dub motor has enough vacuum to achieve this though....
good luck |

In addition to these flame fits that uses the gas from the motor with a seperate coil with spark plug, you can also install a small thing of propane in the back seat and then run a line that enters your pipes with a one way valve you can open from the drivers seat or install a switch that is depressed when you press the gas down all the way. You don't need to switch off the motor, it doesn't foul your plugs, it is just kinda dangerous if you plan on crashing.
