Thought I'd post a couple of pics of my just saftied my 64 squareback after a motor rebuild and a thorough clean and polish. The car is all original and unrestored, just refreshed. It was delivered to Luxembourg and sold from a dealership in Belgium. It was imported to Canada in the late 60's and in storage since 1972.

Nice collection of VW's!

That squareback is bad ass. What color is that?

Glenn Sat Oct 16, 2004 4:17 am

Nice distributor

Envious Sat Oct 16, 2004 4:49 am

Skim, the car is Nutria L575. Pretty beat but lots of 2000 grit sanding and a couple of times with a polisher and it came back fairly well. Considering the paint's 40 years old I was pretty happy.

Glenn, damn nice distributor!! :D You can see why I had to the NOS cap and condensor. Wouldn't have been the same without it. I've got to tell you, that's the first time I've ever opened a box, installed a part, and had it 100% perfect without any messing around. Sorry, that's not entirely true, I had to put on a longer wire since it's type 3  I guess I can live with that. :D I run an adjustable Mallory distributor in my 71 and I spend hours jerking around with it. You're an artist. whenever you're up to the challange, I'll send you the crusty oe distributor from this car and see what you can do with it. It's one year only so I don't want to give up on it and I'm not likely to trip over another one any time soon.

I've thought about making the wire longer and just including the terminal loose so the owner can cut it to length.

So maybe I will.

Thanks for the feedback.

Believe me, that wasn't a critisism. I really wouldn't change a thing. For Type 1 and Type 2 applications, it would have been perfect.

I didn't take it as. It just confirms something I've already thought about.

BTW... i might of found a source for the old style rotors and old style points where there's a seperate copper conductor and steel spring. Not that anyone would ever look under the cap, but it could be an option for those totally insane.

Is that a hint? I'm sure my wife would agree.

Here's a side by side of old vs new.

I found a supplier that might supply new parts (not NOS) that are the same as the old.

Jessica Sat Oct 16, 2004 9:16 am

Hey Envious, I'm envious! That Square looks great! Very, very nice. :D And your other VWs aren't so bad either!

lonslo Sat Oct 16, 2004 7:08 pm

Mr. Bungle Sat Oct 16, 2004 7:55 pm

that square is absolutely amazing. what a peice.

good score on that one.

NorCalLowLife209 Sat Oct 16, 2004 8:12 pm

Your type 3 is soo clean!

Envious Sat Oct 16, 2004 8:19 pm

Thanks for the compliments. Finding the car was a fluke, actually the previous owner found me. The car was full of mould and the paint completely flat from 32 years of storage. The only part of the car I had to replace was the carpet. Everything else has just been cleaned and polished.

The motor was beautiful once I cracked the case. I reused all of the internals without any machine work. Just replaced the bearings and even they were still mint.

The car was $1200 Cdn to buy and I spent $3100 Cdn rebuilding the motor, replacing the entire brake system, adding toys.

quite the stable of vw's envious! i am very jealous...

now about that passat

Envious Sun Oct 17, 2004 3:39 pm

What?! You don't like Passats? I bought it for my wife and son to get around in. It's a beautiful car to drive 3 litre, 30 valve, 220hp with 5 sp auto trans with tiptonic. Black on black leather with wood trim. Does everything but wipe your butt.

I bought it for her when I bought myself the squareback. It's all about balance :)

Dave-

Nice score with the square back. The paint came out most excellent!
