View original topic: Electric choke and gas milage

Over the last 6 weeks my gas milage deteriorated from 30 to 25 mpg. I could not figure out why. I checked timing, valves clearance, distributor cap and rotor, used STP gas treatment and a spray to clean the carb but nothing worked.

Finally I took it to my mechanic who told me the 12 volt choke was damaged. He replaced it an my milage is up again. I hope this helps someone else experiencing the same problem.

Sometimes the simplest of things gives you the biggest headaches.

I'm assuming the choke was stuck partially shut then? Yes, that makes you run rich and eat up gas.

Thanks for posting the information.

Yes, the choke was partially engaged all the time. Not only was it using more gas but I swear it was running hotter also.
