is a '60 bug hood a 4 tab or a 3 tab hood?

4 tabs hold the VW emblem on.

yeah 4 folding tabs as opposed to 3 pins for the v-over-w emblem

1960 & 1961 are three pin , but a different patern than 1962 & up , they take a stamped emblem , two year only . Alyhough it is possible if the 60 is early enough it could have a 4 tab , most were 3 pin . TROY

I have a 59 i think it was last year for 4 tab i think 60 up was 3 tab...Had a perfect 4 tab till last week got rid of it nobody had ever broke it where prop was thats amazing..

Progressive Refinements lists the change from a 4 tab (flat) VW sign hood to a 3 hole (flat) VW sign hood as Jan. 2 1961 (mid model year) chassis # 3 550 952. And Garwood lists the change to a 3 hole (raised) VW sign hood in the '63 model year chassis # 5 010 447. I went through this as to what hood was "right " for my Dec. '60 (61 model year) Beetle with the wrong hood for the last 15 years :) .

Exactly. I have been telling somebody this for ever and they didnt believe me about a 60 having a 4 tab.

I was SURE my Dec '60 Beetle needed a 3 hole flat hood and spent a couple of years looking for a perfect one. THEN I get a copy of Progressive refinements and see that I really needed a 4 tab...oh well. Lloyd
