Hey guys what could i expect to pay for an oval window rag in decent condition? i got the ok to get one for a driver next spring. I am not looking for a trailer queen!! mainly something that looks like i pulled it out of a field and brought it back to life.

| Well your description is vague but I want to say a 56 - 57 rag just a driver nothing special, running and driving semi beater 2 fold rag $2500 - $3500. Dont get me started on a 3 fold rag. The price is way higher. |

| I paid $6K for my 57'Rag. It was rust free though. It needed to be re-done and I now have almost $13K in it at about 90% finished. Still needs bumpers and running boards etc. Oh BTW that is with me doing all the painting, interior, installing the narrowed beam etc myself. If I paid someone it would be over $20K easy!!! |

Curt alot depends on Demographics! where you live and what your willing to Pay, and what the seller is selling for, and willing to accept. Naturally condition plays a big part and overall cosmetics.
If I can give you one bit of advice! Try Curt-----------"TRY"-------- Not to get too emotionally attached to the first 50's Oval you see. Through experiance I found that when you Buy out of emotion and not Common sence, The real cherry VW You have always wanted will Pop up after you plunked down a good Chunk of Change on one that in the long run You wish you hadn't. Do some Real shoppen around and be Patient! Eric=(VMR)=Vintage Motor Restorations. |

A 3 fold in the same shape, I doubt if one in semi beater shape but driving and complete (hearts, semaphores etc) could be had for under $5000 without a lot of luck. |

call me crazy but I would rather have a 54-55 rag than a zwitter rag. Once I got an early split, those zwitters dont do anything for me. |

whats the point of running half a marathon and then quiting?
if you're gonna run it, run it.
imho, you build and drive what you're into. i'm working on a 56 rag right now. it's 2 fold, w/ bullets, new front clip, far from og. not everyones bag of goods, but it's my first build so i'm all over it.
when the time comes, i'll be letting the 55 semi/ribbed door and the zwitter train pass and i'll be hopping on the train straight to splitsville. now, i dont expect this to happen anytime soon, but rest assured, when it does, it'll be non stop all the way. |

Dang, I thought I would catch a lot of, um, "static" (this isn't the Rants, gotta clean up the language) about the price....
Bob, you've seen the car. You know how clean it is. And it's okay if nobody buys it, it will just have to go with me.. and Jeez wouldn't THAT be a shame? LOL
Yeah, I wouldn't trust me any farther than I could throw me... I am real hard to find, ya know? LOL |

I would not do this normally, but this particular car is not the normal oval.
First of all----If the price bothers you, you can quit reading now. $15,000 is more than fair for this particular car. This is a true 'benchmark' car. A car that others are judged against. There is nothing incorrect with this particular car. You could spend $25,000 on your oval and you still would not have the continuity or originality of this car. In the near future when early VWs break into the Concours show scene, this is a car that could be there. Dave has a good $1500 in show quality accessories that come with the car. If you want a car you could drive anywhere, show anytime and enjoy knowing your car is correct; write the check. If you think it's still too expensive, just consider that you bought it early. In a couple years the price will be the same for inferior cars and you will never find another one this correct. My two cents. |

| I was driving a '54 triple-fold this summer, I'd sell it if someone wants it. I just sold the Sprint Stars off it and pulled the motor. $3000 |
