| yeah thats why i think i need a cute blonde co-pilot, to hand me the hooch while i am driving around in the cold.......still thinking of a way to sell that to the wife...anyone ever try and rig up some type of electric heater in a baja, i was lookin at my space heater kinda hard this weekend and think i could fab a mount to hold it under the dash at the feet and let it blow on the feet and legs, anyone in here ever put a converter in a bug to run something like this? think you could wire it up to the fuse block if you had a big enough fuse?(electrically challenged i am)input please. |

| Most electric space heaters run at about 1500 watts, and to add a convertor that could handle that would take some doing, like 3 deep cycle batteries. |

| Well, I am using my oil cooler as a heater. I have it mounted right behind the drivers seat. It has an electric fan and blows warm air on my legs. Good for me, not so good for passengers, oh well, Later Mitch. |

| When the temps get below 40 I wear a down jacket with Gortex shell, mid-weight polyprop gloves, and LL Bean insulated jeans. I also wear my Motorcycle helmet with goggles. I am usually nice and toasty. Above 40 I just wear a heavy sweat shirt, gloves and my helmet. Notice - I always wear my helmet since I wacked my head once against a "padded" roll cage. Go to a race and notice that everyone wears a helmet. Pain like that is not funny and can be avoided. |

Dune buggies are pretty fun in the snow. As long as you have one of these:

You west coasters always crack me up. A down jacket at 40 degrees  .
Seems like anything below 60 and you guys shit a brick. hehe just kiddin. Whatever you gotta do to get out on the trails.
Oh, and the problem of performance vs heat is very important to me as i live in the northeast, and after much research I decided on a gas heater. Not one of the old eberspacher heaters but one of these, http://www.espar.com/htm/airheat.htm |

Does it get cold below 40? In a open baja at speeds of 40-60mph in the high desert you bet it gets cold. Add some 20-40mph winds and it gets down right chilly. And yes it does snow and freeze in the California high desert. Typically we off-road at 3000-6000ft and it gets cold in the winter - not Northeast cold but cold enough! BTW: No heaters in open buggies!
Just like you guys on the east coast think you have mountains we think cold is anything below 40. :) |

| One of the reasons I opted for Pinto power was for heat. When it gets below 30 I usually park it because when it starts getting that cold I know snow and salt are soon to follow. Besides, I'd rather be driving my Bronco in the snow anyway. |

HamburgerBrad,
We ride out in Rasor road quite a bit and one time Afton Creek was so frozen a bunch of guys crashed their bikes when they hit ice. We could jump on it and it would not break. Cold!!! At night the dog bowls froze and many RV batteries died. It was usually 25-28 in the morning.
Beautiful place to ride and explore though! Lots of little miners shacks and stuff along the Mojave trail to check out. |
