I have a Baja type bug, 73 vintage. I heard that the Thing front suspension is super strong as far as VW's go. I'm wondering if it is possible to swap front ends, or if it is even possible. I searched in some of the forums, but didn't find anything. Has anyone tried this before?

i am doing that swap on my baja, also a 73. the trailing arms and steering knuckle from a thing are a direct swap, i got mine out of the 181 ads on here for 100 bucks and got the new ball joints from things unlimited.
if you want to keep it street legal with a working speedo you need the speedo cable out of a super beetle (found that out from a guy who has already done the swap) i havent done the work yet as i am still cleaning up the car and doing the fab work on the rear end but i will let you know how it works for me when i get it finished.
buy the book Baja Bugs and Buggies, i think that was the best piece of advice i have been given since i started this baja project. |
