As the title says, I just want a damn radio for my '66. What I didn't expect was to having to spend a shitload of hours trying to figure out the what/how/where to get
Could somebody pleeaaasseee make me a recomendation for something cheap but good that will install on the stock hole on my dash? If push comes to shove, I would be willing to install it under the dash. One hell of a bonus would be an input jack on the front, so I can plug in my MP3 player. Recomendation on cheap but good speakers would also be welcome.

Does it matter if the radio works or not? Are you looking for a stocker or just something for listening pleasure. My Stock radio doesn't work. I wouldn't dare remove it and replace it with anything different. Just my 2 cents worth. I think I would mount in the glove box. |

The first question I have is if the car is still 6 volts or if you converted to 12 volts. If it is still 6 volts you are stock with a vintage unit, normally they came with an AM radio but an AM/FM was another option. Either of these can be found on the classifieds.
If you converted to 12 Volts then I would leave an original radio in its proper location to keep it looking stock and then I would get a glove box designed to allow for the installation of a radion in it. The following link shows an example of what is available http://www.doghouserepair.com/mall/description.php?ItemID=3850
For the radio itself you could check in Crutchfield http://g.msn.com/9SE/1?http://www.crutchfield.com/...F&CE=1
Good luck. |

If all this is too much work, remember you wouldnt be the first person to just throw a boom box on the passenger seat :) |

The car has been converted to 12v.
Funny thing is, in its 38 years alive (66 sedan) it has never had a radio installed. Came out of the factory without one and doesn't even have an antenna. The original blockoff plate is still there.
Crutchfield does have a handy "Search by what fits your car" but the only thing that comes up is a Sanyo cassette receiver. The quality of it seems questionable at best. |
