or get 181 steering knuckles(spindles) and torsion arms, raised ball joint spindles are basically two sets of spindles cut apart and then welded back together with the piece from the second set being welded to the first set at an offset to the first set giving you the lift (check out blindchickenracing for details on how it is done) 181 componets are factory made with the lift you want (2 to 3 inches) and it is a solid piece straight from the factory in germany not something cut up and welded back together, use the torsion arms and steering knuckles together and you get the lift you want and the bennifit of the ball joints being pressed in from the bottom and holding up much better off road instead of the type1 ball joint system...i picked up my set of arms and knuckles for 100 plus shipping of off this site, look around before you call up the off road shops and lay down your credit card for something...most times there are options for the result you want.

Nothing wrong with the raised spindles from SoCal Imports, been running the 3 inch spindles for the past 3 years. I actually like the off set that these spindles add, I am running 30x9.50/15 and dont rub the inner fender well as much as stock spindles do. Just my .02. Later,Mitch.

Jatech Spindles from SoCal Imports.
I have installed them several times and use them myself.
In the current issue of Hot WV & Dune Buggies, pages 134 - 145 {page 7 of 12}.
http://www.socalautoparts.com/ or (562)633-4979

These are very well made and durable, available in 2 or 3" raised for BJ Drum or Disk. The Guys at SoCal are very helpful and effecient.

Good Day to You.

Thanks for the tips, I'll see what I can find.

Aren't the 181 arms longer than stock also. If so, wouldn't that give me a softer ride as well? I've got heavy duty front torsion leaves in my beam, so it's a lil harsh. Or was harsh with 165's on the front.

Just had my 215/75/15 BFG's put on the front wheels this morning but I don't have the vehicle tagged yet to test drive to se if they made it softer. I would think they would have, but will have to wait and see.

the arms are the same length, the real advantage to 181 arms is that your ball joints would both be pressed in from the bottom so when you take hard hits it just pushes them into the seat, with the bug style one is pushed into the seat and the other is trying to come out of the seat.

i know people run the aftermarket spindles for the bug and dont have troubles out of them, i just like going the 181 route 'couse i got a killer deal on the components and it is straight from the factory in germany.
plus i think 181 ball joints might be stronger units.

thing parts are definetly stronger than type1. For the most parts thing and type one parts are interchangable. You might be able to find a complete beam for cheap, install that and youre front suspension will be really strong.

as for myself I've got a 3" raised front disc brake kit from SoCal Imports waiting to be installed.
