Hey guys GREAT SITE ! I am in the process of rebuilding a f/g dunebuggy. I have disassembled it and now rebuilding the pan. Does any one have any ideas on replacing the floor pans with something other than stock floor pans (such as some kind of diamond tread-steel or aluminum)...thanks for the help :D

How much did the diamond plate cost?

do you have any issues with articulation of the floor pan? does it move around alot or does the diamond patter stabilize it?

you really think that's gonna flex more than stock pans with that 2x3 channel for an outer frame?
That frame looks like a beast, especially if that's steel diamond plate.

yea its steel, not mine tho, its a guy's on the Aussieveedubbers forum.

its not the frame that i'm worrying about flexing. take a large flat piece of metal and hit it. watch it bounce and flex. thats why stock floor pans have the ribs in them.

My buggy pan has 1/4" aluminum diamond plate floors. It is pretty rigid. I don't believe the DP floor would flex more than even a good set of OG pans. It's been reinforced around the perimeter with 1/4" flat stock.

uncle bob that is a very nice pan ....that is exactly what I am after....is that installed over the stock floor pans? or did you remove the old pans? how did you handle the curved portion at the rear of the pan? any pics during construction? oh so many questions.....thanks for the dream!!

if you do have pics and would like to send them ..if it is easy enough my addy is spencerkyle@cox.net thanks again....

Actually, I found this pan under a $300 project buggy that I bought just for the engine. I just cleaned it up, replaced everything, and reinforced the perimeter with flat stock. It was a good find!

The builder cut out the stock pan and left 2 inches on the edges to bolt the diamond plate to. In the rear, the flat diamond plate was left flat, which leaves a gap between the DP and pan. (You can just make out the gap in the picture) I kicked around the idea of bending the DP upwards and hammering what was left of the original pans underneath to hold, but thought about how effecient of a drain the gap would create, so I left it.

I like the gap there, because when the buggy fills up with sand and mud, I just rinse it out with a garden hose, and the water flows out the back. Water never stands in the buggy.
