How can you tell visually the difference between a Type 4 engine out of a 411/412 and a Type 4 out of a bus?
If I have read everything correctly, the dipstick is in a different location, right? Any other visual indicators?
Thanks for helping out a rookie... |

| I believe that might be the only difference. |

Type 4 engines were used in several different vehicles: 411-412, bus, 914, (I think the 1976 912).
Engine code should be an indicator, Type4.org has engine codes for 411-412. I'm sure a bus site will have the same.
Engine tin would be an indicator (if it's still on the engine that is) |

You might want to see my reply to your question over at the Shoptalk Forum's Type 4rum.

| Found it -- it is a 2.0 GE series engine; it is a bus motor, but a 2.0... |

Engine tin.
Umm, just seems to reason there would be a difference. I couldn't ID the diff though.
Seems to me the bus tin would be flatter........ |
