i found two 411's in a vw graveyard here in louisiana, while looking for a notchback (he didn't have one :( ) The owner says he has more type 4's but i didn't see any others. They were stacked on top of one another :( These are my first type 4's i've ever seen! it was like coming on a great pile of gold....or golden turd! :P They were in pretty ruff shape. I asked the guy about them (he's been in the vw business for 30 or 40 years) and he said they were great cars! some of his favorites. He moved his shop awhile back and was gone for 4 years and in that time the woods grew up around the cars and most are in pretty bad shape now. He used to have it real nice he said, orginized and groomed but when he moved back the lot was just too far gone and business in his vw shop declined he had to lay off his workers and close shop. ( i'm sure you all know that the vw scene in louisiana isn't top notch)

I don't think I've seen any Type 4 guys from LA (Louisiana in this case, not Lower Alabama) on either forum. Don't think that many Type 4s made it to Dixie. I've only seen or heard of about 8 in AL (I've got two of those, another 3 are in a junk yard, Deathbus has got one, and the guy in Anniston has one, oh yeah, and the guy in Huntsville).
I think part of the reason we don't have more of them in the South is for the fact that it was very difficult to mount a rifle rack in them. :P

the guy that owns the shop and yard says he has guys that he has been dealing with for years that travel from california every summer and go through the yard and his shop and buy all kinds of parts and cars from him. He had one guy call him and tell him to take a picture of every car he had and that he would come buy them. when he got here he realized what humidity does to metal with no paint. :P after seeing all that rust he changed his mind! I wish this guy would adopt me and i could spend the rest of my life dicking off in his shop!

Funny, T4's were all over Shreveport, LA in the mid-late 70's. :? You couldn't swing a cat (dead or otherwise) without hitting one. Ditto T3's and T2's. Even had a friend at college with a T1 with A/C from the dealer. I didn't see any T4's at whatever replaced Pipes U-Pull-It on Mansfield Rd. last time I was up there, I guess they've all gone to the great rustpile in the sky.
