i am rebuilding a 01/55 oval and i have a problem with handbrake.
i had problems also to find the adjustment of it but solved that...
early ovals have a cover in the framehead between the ft axle tubes.
which kind of adjusters can I use to have it lowered?
i have seen that commonly used swayaway hit the cover of hanbrake adjustment .
in the rear can i install a late gearbox? how to use the hanbrake cables with recent brakes? |

Any kind of adjusters work fine. I have old style (BugPack) adjusters.
All you have do, is modify your handbrake cover.
Late gearbox is ok, but nosecone shoud be from bus tranny.
Handbrake cables work ok with any kind of bug rear drumsbrakes. |

what about making a new "spacesaver" cover?
about the rear brakes, do you think that i have to use an upside down rear drum plate (wheel cylinder on lower side) or i can run in standard one (wheel cylinder in top and hanbrake entering from front in the downside.
thanks, peppe |

| In my '54, I put a '66 gearbox and rear brakes, put the passenger side backing plate on the driver's side and driver's side on pas. side, that way the parking brake cables still come in the backside of that backing plate, just like stock. |

| you can change out e brake cables to 58 and up to have cables come into front of backing plate or use the backing plates from your newer brakes on opposite sides (right on left and left on right ).. i made a new cover out of 1/8" aluminum as the lip on stock cover between front beam tubes hit adjusters... |
