Hello everyone,
I just purchased my fourth and by far the oldest VW I've ever owned, It's a 1957 beetle that has been sitting in a garage since 1989. Naturally I've been going through the usual things to make it road worthy again and I have a couple of questions:
1. The horn works with the lights off but when I turn them on it dosen't, any ideas what I should test or look for?
2. There is a cup on the inside of the rear drum with a tube that goes through a hole on the outside of the drum. What is this for? I have four different repair manuals and none of them mention this part of the system.
3. I need five new tires. Where can you get vintage style tires?
Thanks for the help

1. Unsure but need to go over the wiring for the horn and the light switch. Get a wiring diagram and go eveything and clean all connections... Make sure all ground's are clean and have good contact.
2. In case the seal goes south the gear oil is slung into the cup and out the tube by centrifical force.
3. Coker tire www.coker.com |

| Thanks for the info. I also noticed my Glass says duro glass and not sekriut (I don't think I spelled it right) Was this replacement glass? |

| I just started a 57 restoration myself. It has all Duro-Glass as well. |

| Actually, after I posted that I did some VIN research and it looks like the car is as 56. I don't have the title available as it's a customer car. But I'd bet his title says 57 as well. Vin 1323360 looks like a 56 and the heater outlets are farther forward. I hear in 57 they moved them back by the door. |
