| Well, Rob and I got in an evening of work on the camper. Patched the front floor so no puddles come pouring in on the trip. Re-greased the front end, adjusted the front brakes, and (hopefully) got the passenger side wiper arm working properly again. |

We all have jobs that don't allow time off now... Sad panda. I'm shooting for Shasta 2011 with a purpose built bus! |

Update from Team Oregon,
Green truck is now located deep in the shop for some tune-ups. Pulled the wiper motor and arms out. Need new motor, the 66 unit is fried but all the arms and pivots are good. More work to be done.
This just in, Mr. Waterman of Split Bus Club fame has just signed up to ride shotgun with me! I told him he could do some driving too! Ha sucka!
Over and Out, Mr. Armstrong
P.S. It's snowing up here! |

Beetlebus lives!
Thanks to the 1600 beetle that gave its life so a bus could live. |

Oh Crofty, you're SO upper crust! Now, if he used a pair of dykes to clearance for the pea shooters, well, that's a different story. Of course his were already hacked by the boy scout troop 57 that ran the bus before Joe Cool got it.
Speaking about boy scouts... with pocket knives... that have can openers on them... DAMN that friggn' panel is can-opened!
Panel reserection status: Success. Brakes work killer, engine delivers the goods, transaxle does all the complicated mathmatical reductions and shit and doesn't complain in any gear. All good. NOT good... electrical. Mission to drive panel home: aborted. Reason: Too many electrical issues in conjunction with horrible eye sores. This, when weighed up against time constraints on a much needed construction job demanded re-prioritization. |

Update from Team BDR
Today consisted of morphing the BDR Shasta Bus from Endurance Road Rally mode back to SST configuration. First up was to pull the 28 1/2 inch tall 235 x 75/15 road rubber and replace with the 25 1/2 inch tall 205 x 75/14 studded mud/snow tires.
Difference in ground to sump clearance is 1 1/2. Looks like we will be pulling the deep sump along with the "Air Hog" Scoop that was all part of the road rally set-up.
H2O injection and misting systems and their reservoirs will also be removed for this years assault on Shasta.
Other things on the "to do" list include remounting roof racks and off road lights that were removed in favor of speed and mileage during the endurance events. Not much more to do other than the usual prep stuff.
More updates as they are realized. |

Finally with the addition of your new co-pilot, the infamous Mr. Waterman you can do justice to the title of Team "Green" Truck. You may have to consider installing some sort of air filtration system within the cab. At times, spectators could falsely mistake your dash electrical system to be on fire. You might also think about a Thursday night informal and impromptu "farmers market" at the Rampage Spot to showcase some of Humbolt County's finest tomatoes. |

Update from Hugo Road Resto,
I love working on old VWs and seeing what people have done to them over the years. Take for example my 63 single cab, I've had her for over 14 years and have done alot of work to her. At some point in her life she got hit in the nose pretty good and slapped in the ass too. But she is still a great truck, so I pull the wiper motor out cause it needs some love and the dam thing has a 1966 solid state wiper unit in it! I pull out the big blue book and it says that unit can't work in a pre 65 bus! But some how someone shoved in this big ass wiper unit into this early rig, and it ran great for years!
So I'm just going to rub it, love it and shove the dam thing back in it.
More to come, Mr. Armstrong |

Norcal Relics Racing update
Motor is all together, took forever to find a correct rear cover plate to match the tin behind the pulley, I have way too much shit to sift through. I have as many hours hunting for parts as I do wrenching... Should be running tomorrow after I pressure wash all of the high desert sand out of the engine compartment. Making test run to Havasu in 2 weeks.
Still have to find a good Mexican blanket for seat covers...

Took a couple of pages out of Mr. Armstrong's SST Prep Book and decided to make sure our wiper system is fail safe.....after all, we didn't need them last year. In fact we didn't even have the arms mounted all year.
So we went through our collection of t2 wiper motors, arms, etcetera, and reconstructed with the best combination.
A few layers of Rain-X and we should be good.
Also changed tach. The smaller 3 1/2 version had a burned out bulb and didn't illuminate at night. Found a good working early version Auto-Meter Pro Comp Monster Tach in our misc. Racecar stuff to replace it.

It's cool to see the progress of the different teams. Team Surf City has been tuning up with a few family off-road adventures through some of the most trippy (uninhabited) places in CA.
The wife and Tiny man (3 1/2 in the back) pose for papa on the San Andreas Fault.
