That's in the third, and only unacceptable category. Fix it by any means, and roll!
I'm standing by the 3 category model. Two are acceptable. |

Yes of course you forget the other unacceptable category - "I am a weenie and I fear that this kind of driving will hurt my bus or I am simply scared" - that is the kind I was talking about. But of course you know that.
Yeesh, it's worse than the US Guv'mint in here! |

Even the locals would say that is very subjective. |

The SST has always been what you make it.
Don't like the deep and fast river crossing or ice covered cliff hanging narrow road.....find another route. Save your Bus for another year.
If you have to visit the Moore Compound to make repairs and still get to
Shasta, that's a complete SST in my book.
Call it levels of completion.
As far as I know, complete an SST and you get Newt status.
Stay off of 5 and/or do hardcore repairs and make it to Shasta and/or pull off some really radical stunt....then you get Honey Badger Status (established 2012), a very elite club. |

Yeah, I think I've got to back away from this one. I spoke without thinking it through, apparently it is a bigger deal than I feel like dealing with.
"The SST has always been what you make it." - Greg
Yep, fair enough, leave it there. Seems to me that every attempt to define, regulate, prod with sticks, tease with carrots on sticks, give prizes for, or otherwise compartmentalize, regulate and limit what the SST is, what it ain't, and who and what the participants are, or their worth, ends in bickering, flag-waving, misunderstanding, phallus-waving, one-upmanship, general malaise, nastiness, buzz-kill, and is just a bummer. Turns the SST into a circle-jerk.
So, yeah, I'll just go along with what Greg said, and do my own thing....sorry I brought it up! |

OK, lemme see if I got this straight.
1. Newt: one who has completed a Shasta Snow Trip.
2. Larvae: one who stands at the starting line, ready to face the trip's perils and rewards.
3. Tadpole: a Larvae who has completed the first half of the trip, and still holds his/her water.
4. Snowflake: one who talks big about doin' the trip, but somehow never seems to show up at the starting line.
5. Pussy: one who, despite having knowledge of the trip's perils, runs out of courage during the trip and bails.
6. Stretcher: one who, despite being willing and prepared, is forced to quit due to grievous bodily harm.
7. Nosecone: one who is unable or unwilling to complete the trip due to catastrophic mechanical failure.
8. Stud: one who overcomes catastrophic mechanical failure to complete the trip.
9. Dipstick: one who has a bus or a team that is mechanically unprepared for the trip.
10. Seatcover: a team member who has no meaningful input toward the team's goal.
11. Manny: one who would rather get laid than keep going.
12: Honey Badger: a Newt who completes the trip with extraordinary style, courage, speed, and disregard for danger.
13: Buster: one who is willing to thrash his bus if it will make a good background image for all of our monitors. (see also: Lou)

Geez, if I listen to Gene's post, I just turned the SST into a circle jerk. A big, muddy circle jerk.
Oooo! Oooo! Let's have a Shasta Wiki!!!!

Maybe you're right, the much easier to remember Pussy/Pussy/Traumatic Injury model lacks nuance.
BTW, I hope to relegate myself to seat cover next year. Looking for a ride! |
