I've been failing to get this bus together for Shasta for several years now:
It is currently at the Kombihaus body shop and Justin has promised to return it to me (with new used metal welded in) a couple months before Shasta.
Today I scored this for it:
$227 at Pick-n-Pull! It's from a '73 automatic super beetle so it needs a little attitude adjustment before I can use it, but I am so happy anyway. (Turns over by hand, minimal end play.)
'66 Kombi - $500
new used metal - $400
new used motor - $227
Stress-free Shasta - priceless |

Hope you grabbed the voltage regulator for that 3-prong Alternator. Those are hard to come by these days.
Nice Score! |

Nope, but I'll go get it tomorrow when I give them a core. Thanks for the tip.
I tried and failed to climb Shasta. At 13000 feet I started puking and quit. I'm going to try again next year but spend a night camped above 10000 feet to acclimate first. |

I think you already have a HB Certified Bus. |

Im sure there is talk about this somewhere here already, but I dont frequent the forum that much. Major portion of mendocino national forest is on fire including some sections that are part of SST.

Here is a map. |

| We'll have to see how things look once the fire is contained and out. Worst case, it might rule out an eastern Mendo route for 2013. |

Nice Score!
I heard a bay regulator from 72-79 was the same.

Howdy Newts! At long last, we got us a Black Bear, the official breakfast dive of the SST. In attendance for the Grand Opening were Captain American, Pinkie Deluxe, Frankenbus, and Bosco, along with all 5 brave members of the Intrepid Team Idaho: Rachel, Ross, Kris, Brent, and myself.
Do you think anyone brought a camera?
Oh well. Thanks Black Bear for gettin' 'er done, thanks Bosco for starting after sitting 3 months, thanks Rachel for the great idea (and buying!), and thanks to everyone who didn't tell Lou, since it's not my Birthday.
It's never my Birthday. |

Ha! Cool.
We've got one now in Milpitas (about 10mi from where I used to live and about 3mi from my work). I even now have a Black Bear coffee mug here at work. :D
Anyone else jonesing for some cold weather and dirt roads? |

Judging by that window hole...that's what it was. Plans for those holes?
...that sounds so wrong! |

I was giving a window frame that look like it's a Riviera.
It doesn't fit the hole.

| Well, Riviera basically used whatever was on hand in any given week to build their campers. |
