| Hi. I recently purchased retractble 3-point seat belts for my 72 SB. I already have standard lap belts installed. I have everything figured out except where to install the upper mount for the shoulderstrap. I can feel a hole through my headliner material on the pillar between the rear side window and the door on either side, but this hole feels bigger than the mounting bolt that came with the belts. Or am I supposed to mount the top mount where the coat hook and leather loop is? Has anyone else installed a 3-point belt? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx. |

| From what I understand, if you got a new set of belts and bolts, you will need to get an adapter. The adapter screws into the big hole and the smaller bolts that came with your set screws into that. I know they do not screw in in place of the loop. If I remember, I'll snap some pics of mine this evening. The front 3 points were already installed, and I installed the rears. |

| Thanks for all the help and the pics, Cobey. I'm going to try to install the belts this weekend. I'll be back if I run into trouble. |

| It should be pretty painless, other than finding the bolt hole locations. I confess I tore up the headliner trying to find the rears, but, it already looks like crap so no big loss there. |

No Prob,
Thanks for the pics. My last SB had a 3 points up front, and laps in the back.
What I am wondering is; The mount you are using in the back, is it for seat belts, or is it the mount for rear popout windows?
Tanks! |

It's for seatbelts. From what I have read from several sources, the US required lapbelts, while Europe requires shoulder belts. Instead of making two different bodies, VW just maked off a set of mounting holes depending on where the car would end up.
I used a set of front 3 points, and they went right in. |

| Thanks for the help Cobey. I got the seatbelts in easily, a lot easier than when I did the same for my wife's 66 Mustang. They work well, too. This forum has been a big help to me. Hopefully someday, I'll learn enough about my car to help someone else, too. |
