:( I,ve got a 74 SB It suffered a hit to the left front damaging the strut housing beyond repair. I,ve looked for new replacement STOCK strut housings but have only found lowered strut housings which will not work with my tire/wheel package. Is a wreck yard my only hope? Also I cannot find a replacement upper strut mount housing.

maybe wolfsburg west will have it in stock. i know in britain that there are a few specialist VW parts stores and they can track things done pretty well plus some bigger companies that go over a bigger range of cars from the same manufacturer.
if not then a scrap yard will have a whole strut assembly.

Mid America Motorworks has various parts to assist in this repair. Follow this link to see if the part you need is there. Goo luck and post pictures when it is done.

Or find someone on here who recently switched to lowered struts, and they might give you their stock ones for free... :)

I recently replaced/rebuilt my entire front suspension and tried to find new strut housings. I was told by 3 different companies that nobody makes the original strut housings. Finding a goood one in a bone yard will probably be your best bet. Good luck.

will ones off a '71 or '71 work? I have two full front end assmeblies, steering, struts, and all collecting dust and grime.

There is currently a set of complete struts in the Samba classifieds for sale. $30 each. Just do a search in the classifieds for "strut". As for the strut top I assume you are looking for the mount with teh bearing. BFY has these at a reasonable price.

There was a difference before and after mid 73

I think it can be determined by how many bolts connect the lower ball joint. 2, or 3(?)

Up to 5/73 the ball joints bolt on with 3 bolts. After 6/73 the ball joints press in.
