Wondering if you guys can help me out. I have type 3 brakes on my baja, which gives me 4 bolt drums in the rear. I am wanting to run 5 bolt drums for obvious reasons. I was told that bus drums are wider and better. My question is: Can I switch out the drums without switching anything else out? Or can I run some earlier 5 bolt drums on my type 3 brake assemblies?? Any and all info would be appreciated.

Hi...just got disk brakes on my car...and had some problems with the pedal hight....someone in the samba sent me this address. It defines the issue of change MC, cyl and drums changeover ...hope it assist you in your quest. You can see the note in my "yellowspyder" posting...same kit car section, about the disk brake installation. :D

I think early type 3 drums are 5 bolt and fit IRS axles without modification. |

| i'm pretty sure you need the matching backing plates. check with the type 3 guys to see if they are the same or if you will need to switch those too for the 5 lug drums |

| Why not have your 4 lug tapped out to wide 5 pattern thats what a few of my buddies are doing with there irs tapping out drums to wide 5.. |
