How do you gut the rear quarter window on a '72 Convertible. How does the glass disconnect from the regulator? I am trying to remove everything. Oh yeah, anyone know a good way to remove the trim clips from the body?

By trim clips, you mean the ones for the chrome strips on the side? I used a small phillips screw driver and a pair of needle nose. Go at 'em from inside and push the center out with the screwdrive. Then use the needlenose to conpress the "teeth" and push them out the hole.

I think it's pretty self explanitory. About a year ago I replaced my drivers rear quarter due to a broken hinge. I think all I did was remove a couple bolts holding the hinge to the door jamb and the rest came out relatively easy. To tell you the truth, I can't really remember which leads me to believe it was a no-brainer.
When all else fails RTFM

my problem is getting the window off the regulator so I can get everything out. It doesn't connect to the regulator like the main windows do.

I recall on mine that the window rode on a metal channel that has some kind of a wire clip holding it in place. It wasn't hard to remove once that metal clip was disconnected. I agree, it didn't seem hard to do.

I did see the metal clip. Do I just pull it towards the rear or pull it in towards the center of the car?

Unfortunately I don't remember how that clip comes out. I did it a couple of years ago on my 79 super vert. But I'm not a mechanical genius so I'm confident you can figure it out by playing with it a little to figure out how to remove it. I seem to recall that it came out suddenly and then I had to fish for it at the bottom of the body panel.

I'll have to screw with it tonight. Is that your '79 in your pic? If so, I really dig the older bumpers, very classy.

No, actually that's a 65. I had a 79 and sold it but I thought I'd keep my name to give credit to the car that gave me my start in beetles. Supers need loving, too, you know! :D |
