i am currenty building a baja bug with a toyota 22r 2.4L motor in it. (almost done). i would like to take it to a couple of vw shows but i am nervous that people would boo me out because i didnt keep the aircooled vw motor in it. it would seem hipocritical to me because bajas have all kinds of different non-vw parts on them. i would like some imput on if my car should go to shows with a toyota motor. thnx

i dont think anyone will boo you. if its done properly, you may actually see some praise from people that put alot of time into creatively engineering their own cars.

alot of people look down on bajas anyhow since you guys cut up a perfecly good bug. :roll:

moral of the story: if anyone says anything bad, tell them to stuff it

baja bug owners are just plain white trash. :lol: :lol: a couple of years ago i took my baja to the local car show. my baja isn't steet legal so i put it in "race car" class, filled with all the local circle track dudes. the contest was viewer judged and i won second place!! some of the dirt track guys were pissed too-- said that beetle isn't a race car!!

I was at a show with my baja last summer and got great reviews on my Pinto engine set-up. The only negative I heard all weekend was from a couple of so called purists who I later found out know nothing about cars and had to pay to have their cars restored. :roll:

If you were trying to stuff that motor in a stock sedan, I would expect to hear some jeers, but in a baja I don't think anyone minds at all.

Personally I don't care for it, but it's up to the owner. I don't talk trash cuz someone does it, who cares :P. I just love the sound of VW motors so I couldn't do it myself. But did at one time consider putting a Mazda rotary in it as a sedan :P

I don't think anyone who has ever actually picked up a wrench would say anything bad about a 22R Toyota conversion, in a Baja. They're great engines. If anyone says anything negative, you can respond with, "Well, hey, it's 2.4 liters and bulletproof. What are you running?"
