Im sorry but i have not been properly educated on the term "Fatty" or "Fat Chick". I cant figure if has to do with the year or is it a style? I never heard that till I got on TheSamba. Im only a newbie to TheSamba though not Vdubs!

Yep, a fatty or fat chick is a super beetle.

Not just a Super Beetle. Most late models are considered Fat Chicks.

68 and later Standards
All Super Beetles
Bay Windows
Some Type 3s (not sure the starting year)
Some Ghia's (not sure the year)
All Type 4s

Sorry to disagree with ya there Glen, but according to the Samba definition and everything I've heard in the past, a fat chick is either a super or a late model bus. I know I've heard folks refer to any post 67 as a fat chick but they’re wrong. The term fat chick has to do with the larger proportions of supers. Standards are slimmer. Supers have "fatter" hoods, aprons and fenders.

I've been told anything post 67 is a fat chick... but i don't get why this term started... i never heard it before prob 6 months ago...

I really feel there should be a seperate term for late 67 on standards. Maybe pleasantly plump or something like that because they definitly don't have the "fat" appearnce of the supers.

If a 69 is fat a 67 is at least chubby. Ive heard some refer to any big window as a fat chick.

-jeffrey i dont know about the fenders....they look fatter the older the year.my friends super has slimm fenders. my 68's fenders are a little wider.and my brothers 66 is even wider.i know the bodies are alot wider.

Until recently I only thought of Super Beetles as been "fat chicks". It seems the definition has evolved to include standard beetles post 1967 as well.

We will see what happens in 15 years or so.

put it this way,..
wide 5 lug pattern,.. vintage.
4 lug,. fatchick.
it's a rough rule of thumb but if you don't believe me,
then why does 67 & earlier get higher prices?
And why is 68 and later bug in a different category?

im with jhicken on this one glenn. maybe you would know better but when the term first surfaced it was directed toward supers and late busses as far as i know. not that i would know, i havent owned a fat chick in a while nor slept with one!

but maybe a better term for post 67 cars could be........for sale

there is nothing wrong with late models. Plus out here where i live older is ALOT more expensive. There was a 65 with heater channel rusted out and floor pans rusted, was hit into a tree twice, parts IN the car, and in pieces.

Only thing nice was a factory sunroof, original bamboo rack, and the fact that it was a 65.

He wanted $1000 for it. prob still there too

i never said there was anything wrong with fatchick bugs.
just i DO know what one is and what is the definition MOST go by is.
i won't try and complain about it because my bug suddenly falls under that lable.
i'll stick with the vintage.
